Birthday Party Ideas

Planning a birthday party as a grown up can be difficult. It would be great to go back to the days of jelly and ice cream, pin the tail on the donkey and pass the parcel, but as adults we're harder to please. When we're old enough to head to the local pub or nightclub, a whole host of celebration opportunities open up as the centre of towns and cities around the country becomes our oyster! But by your mid-20s it's no longer appropriate to head to a nightclub and construct a birthday around the simple concept of having too much to drink! But a birthday party can still be fun, inventive and unique when you're older, too.

Book a Cheap and Easy Getaway
In the last 10 to 15 years, the advent of low cost air travel has meant that the whole of Europe and North Africa has been opened up for a short weekend breaks. Prague is the new destination for stag and hen parties, while Cyprus is the latest desirable location for a beach wedding! So why not get some friends together and jet off for a long weekend? That way the pressure is off you to lay on a lavish party, and everybody can please themselves. The only question now is whether to soak up the art and culture of Berlin or revel in the hedonistic nightlife of Ibiza – it's up to you!

Plan Something Out Of the Ordinary
Try thinking outside the box for your birthday celebrations. Go online and check out your local listings and see what's around. How about spending your day dry slope skiing or paintballing? Large groups often get discounts and it's a fun and unique way to celebrate with friends. And how well do you know theatre? Take a trip to the West End and take in a show for a memorable way to mark the occasion. Perhaps you want a more intimate celebration with your significant other, in which case you could book a ride in a hot air balloon or a romantic boat trip along a river.

Have a Fancy Dress Party

Instead of simply having a few friends over for drinks, why not spice it up by making it a theme party? Everything from the costumes to the décor to the food and drink can match your chosen theme. Have a 70s party with big hair, flares, disco music and babysham flowing freely! You could even return to your childhood and have a kids' themed party with jelly and ice cream - the possibilities are endless!

Planning a unique party can be a fun experience in itself. Whether you choose a city break in Paris with a trip to the Eiffel tower or a nautical theme party with people in sailor fancy dress, you're sure to have a memorable birthday.
